Ash Way

Key features

  • All stations would be elevated .
  • The existing Ash Way Park-and-Ride located west of I-5 would continue to be the area’s parking facility.
  • Community Transit serves this area with local and commuter buses, and Swift Orange Line service.
  • Snohomish County plans to complete a new multimodal crossing of I-5 north of 164th St SW, which is partially funded.
  • No preferred alternative was identified for this segment.
Map showing the Ash Way segment from West Alderwood in the south to Mariner in the north. There are 2 route and station alternatives. The ASH 1 route alternative runs along the westside of I5 connecting to station alternative ASH A. The ASH 2 route alternative crosses over I-5 to connect to station alternative ASH D on the eastside of I5, then must cross back over to the west side of I5 as it approaches the Mariner Segment. There is a potential design refinement that crosses I5 farther south to reduce noise impacts and allow for a longer stretch at-grade.

Key landmarks are Ash Way Park-and-Ride, Swift Orange Line route along 164th Street SW, Walmart, Foursquare Church and Martha Lake. Wetlands are on the west side of I5 unaffected by any alternatives.

Alternatives

Alternative ASH-1A consists of Alignment ASH-1 and Station ASH-A.

Alignment: ASH-1 would be elevated along the west side of I-5, transitioning to an at-grade profile near Maple Road, elevated near 170th St SW, and back to at-grade near Oak Road. The height of the guideway would range between at-grade and 70 feet high.

Station: ASH-A would be an elevated station in the vicinity of Ash Way Park-and-Ride on Alignment ASH-1. The station canopy would be approximately 75 feet above the ground.

Alternative ASH-2D consists of Alignment ASH-2 and Station ASH-D.

Alignment: ASH-2 would be elevated along the west side of I-5, transitioning to an at-grade profile near Maple Road. The alignment would then transition to elevated near 177th Place SW, cross from west to east over I-5 south of the 164th St SW interchange, and transition back down to an at-grade profile near 159th St SW. The alignment would transition back to elevated near 141st St SW and cross over to the west side of I-5 near 134th St SW. The height of the guideway would range between at-grade and an elevated guideway approximately 75 feet high.

Station: ASH-D would be an elevated station near 164th St SW in the vicinity of Motor Place. The station canopy would be approximately 70 feet above the ground.

  • Explore moving the pocket track from the West Alderwood segment to an at-grade portion of the Ash Way segment.
  • Explore moving the turnback from the Mariner segment to the Ash Way segment. This option would terminate the 2 Line at Ash Way instead of Mariner.
  • Explore redesigning the ASH-2D station to be at-grade.
  • Explore crossing I-5 farther south and shifting station ASH-2D further east, reducing noise impacts and allowing for a longer stretch at-grade.

Alternatives summary table

This table summarizes some of the key findings in the Draft EIS Executive Summary. To review the detailed summary of findings, visit Section 4.3.2.3 and Table 4-17 of the Draft EIS.

Notes:
a) Numbers or descriptions presented in this table are for permanent or long-term impacts, except where a construction impact is noted. Each alignment alternative is compatible with all alignment alternatives in the adjacent segments. The ranges of displacements reflect the various connections to the adjacent segments.
b) Opinions of probable cost are in 2025 dollars, are for comparative purposes only, and do not represent the project budget.

Please note that the information contained in the table is repeated in an outlined list below. There is no difference from the content shared in the table. It is provided in two different formats so the information is accessible to everyone.
