Broadway/I-5

Key features

This section of the project includes two route alternatives from SR 526 and I-5 to Lowell Road and I-5. This section does not include a station.

  • The BI-1 route would run mostly at street level next to I-5. This route was identified as the preferred alternative.
  • The BI-2 route would be in an open-air trench in the southern third of this section, transitioning to elevated track moving north.

What has changed since 2023?

Route BI-1, which runs along I-5, was identified as the preferred alternative by the Sound Transit Board.

The Broadway-Interstate 5 segment stretches from the Evergreen segment in the south to the Everett Station segment in the north. This segment does not include any station alternatives, but features two route alternatives shown in different colors, with the BI-1 route shown in green and the BI-2 route shown in blue. The green color indicates that it is the preferred alternative. The BI-1 route alternative runs along the west side of Interstate 5 for the entire segment and is mostly at street level, except for the north end of the segment where the route turns into an elevated route. The BI-2 route alternative runs north up Broadway, beginning at street level before turning into an elevated route near the 73rd Street Southwest intersection, and continues as an elevated route as it approaches downtown Everett.
